While quality and price is critical when searching for a contractor, in this day and age communication and reliability seem even harder to come by. When we started our contractor search, we only had our driveway in mind. We knew we wanted stamped concrete but that was as far as we got. We did our due diligence and started getting estimates. Charlie was the first person I met. I briefly explained what we wanted with the driveway, which turned into “can you do the walkway?” which turned into “how about our entrance?” He gave us our quote and while he was there, I figured I’d ask about the back patio too even though we weren’t planning on doing that. Charlie arrived on time, communicated well, listened to me, and didn’t rush anything.
Once we got our other quotes, it was clear not only was Charlie’s price the best one, but we felt most comfortable with him personally. His personality is larger than life and over the course of working with him, felt more like family than our contractor.
We wound up doing the whole front and the back as well. I mocked up some ideas on PowerPoint like a crazy person and asked him to come back to look it over. He came back immediately, sat with us, listened to us and ultimately said he could do it. I threw ideas at him many times and changed things up and he never batted an eye. For example, we wanted black on black. He didn’t even have the black color to use but got it for us so we were happy. He never said he couldn’t do something, never tried to charge me senseless additions, and let me work with him through the whole process. He even let me help form out the patio exactly how we wanted it. Charlie never made me feel like a pain or that I shouldn’t be there with my input. In fact, he did just the opposite.
From start to finish not only was he great, but so was his crew and their work. The guys were always on time, professional and great at what they did. They worked hard, worked in the rain some days, and never took short cuts. Charlie is also not the type of owner to just dictate. He got right in the dirt with his crew and most times worked just as much as them. I have nothing but good things to say about McClelland Masonry and highly recommend his work.
Owner: Charlie is awesome. He communicates right away and always kept me posted. If I txt him, he would call me right back or within a couple hours. He’s a hard worker, easy going and skilled at his job. Made us feel comfortable. Never pressured us or tried to sell us things we didn’t need.
Crew: Great guys. Always showed up on time ready to work and worked really hard. They never complained when I added or changed things.
Price: Fair pricing. The other estimates I got were highly inflated and almost double in price, for less work and lower quality. For example thinner concrete for more money. No skill or quality was sacrificed during this process.
Timeline: We dealt with a lot of rain during our project so everything was completed over about a month and a half. Would’ve prob been only a few weeks otherwise.
Quality: the stamped concrete looks great, rebar was used, and 5” thick concrete used.
Bottom line: Don’t think twice, hire them!
